Washington, D.C. – Today, Zero Emission Transportation Association (ZETA) Executive Director Joe Britton testified before the U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources during its hearing on the scale and scope of critical minerals demand and recycling.
Because ZETA is an industry-backed coalition that spans the EV supply chain (including critical mineral developers, battery producers, and battery recyclers), ZETA is uniquely positioned to discuss the scope and scale of critical mineral demand in the United States, as well as the myriad opportunities aligned with expanding domestic EV adoption.
“The expansion of electric transportation will deliver not just environmental and public health benefits, but also unparalleled economic benefits to communities across America,” said Britton. “These benefits will be experienced not just by EV drivers, but by every American who benefits from a stable career, who avoids breathing polluted air, or whose small business benefits from a new manufacturing plant that just opened in their town. But getting this right requires a comprehensive, bipartisan strategy designed to secure a North American supply chain for critical mineral production.”
Britton’s testimony illustrated the environmental, public health, and economic advantages of supporting the ascendant electric vehicle sector, and he emphasized the national security imperative of creating a durable domestic supply chain for critical minerals.
“Transportation electrification can free us from our overreliance on foreign fossil fuel imports. By taking just a few legislative and regulatory steps, the United States can unleash the untapped potential of our critical minerals, battery production, and electric transportation industries,” continued Britton. “These industries have already begun to prove their transformative power, having created thousands of jobs and invested tens of billions of dollars into communities across the country. But they need federal support in the form of predictable permitting timelines; tax incentives for critical minerals, battery-related technologies, electric vehicles, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure; and a whole-of-government approach toward driving transportation electrification forward.”
