WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, the Senate voted to pass the “CHIPS+” Act. It is expected that the House of Representatives will vote to pass the bill in the coming days, and the bill will then be sent to President Biden for his signature before the beginning of the August recess. The legislation includes subsidies for semiconductor and computer chip manufacturing, which play an important role in the production of electric vehicles, in addition to other funding to help domestic advanced manufacturing companies compete with our global competitors.
In response, Joe Britton, Executive Director of the Zero Emission Transportation Association (ZETA), released the following statement:
“We applaud this bipartisan effort to transform the United States’ advanced manufacturing industry. Investing in these 21st-century technologies will help level the playing field between the United States and our global competitors, giving innovative U.S. entrepreneurs the opportunity and supply chains they need to innovate.
“This bill will bolster the American manufacturing industry, but it does not replace the clean energy agenda that has been under negotiation in Congress. To create millions of jobs here at home, drive down consumer costs to combat inflation, free us from foreign oil markets, and dramatically improve public health, it is vital for Congress to pass a reconciliation package with robust EV consumer incentives, charging installation incentives, and battery production tax credits.”
