Today, the Zero Emission Transportation Association (ZETA) welcomed the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) decision to grant California a pair of Clean Air Act waivers allowing it to enforce its Advanced Clean Trucks (ACT) rule. ZETA joined 113 other organizations in a letter to EPA in November, requesting that EPA approve the waiver to support the electrification of heavy-duty trucks.

In response to today’s announcement, Albert Gore, Executive Director of ZETA, released the following statement: 

“ZETA applauds EPA’s decision to grant California’s waiver request to enforce its Advanced Clean Trucks rule, reaffirming the state’s longstanding Clean Air Act authority to address its air pollution concerns. The ACT rule is an essential tool that supports the decarbonization and electrification of the heavy-duty sector. EPA’s action not only sends an important market signal to industry, but will also have profound public health benefits for the historically disadvantaged communities that disproportionately bear the burden of tailpipe emissions from heavy-duty vehicles. Residents in California and the ten other states that have committed to adopting these rules can breathe more easily thanks to EPA’s action today.”
