WASHINGTON, D.C.— Today, the Biden Administration announced that it is awarding $2.8 billion in new grants to 20 manufacturing and processing companies across 12 states—which include Zero Emission Transportation Association (ZETA) members Albemarle and Piedmont Lithium Inc. The funding is allocated through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and reflects the federal commitment to securing U.S. supply chains. The administration also announced the American Battery Materials Initiative—a new effort to mobilize the federal government in securing “a reliable and sustainable supply of critical minerals.”
In response, Joe Britton, the Executive Director of the Zero Emission Transportation Association (ZETA), released the following statement:
“This is what getting serious about competing with China, developing a robust domestic electric vehicle supply chain, and leading the world in clean transportation technology looks like. With this announcement, the Biden Administration is showing the United States and the world that it is following through on its commitment to protecting the environment, investing in American innovation and manufacturing, and creating hundreds of thousands of new jobs.”
