WASHINGTON, D.C.—The Zero Emission Transportation Association’s Executive Director, Albert Gore, celebrated usage of the new and used Clean Vehicle Tax Credits (§30D and §25E) in a statement today, following the release of new metrics by the Department of Treasury this morning. According to the Treasury Department, more than $1 billion in upfront financial benefits have been delivered since January 1, supporting more than 150,000 EV buyers. Treasury noted that 90 percent of new EV buyers and 80 percent of used EV buyers have opted to access the credits as a point-of-sale rebate.
“These metrics from the Treasury Department show that the Clean Vehicle Tax Credits are working as intended for consumers who want clean cars made in America,” said Gore. “90 percent of EV buyers using the new vehicle credit are opting to take advantage of it as a rebate at the point-of-sale. This means that more individuals are able to receive the credit without having to wait to file their taxes or requiring a high tax bill to benefit. We are also thrilled to see reports that the 13,000 dealers that have registered to provide the credits as a point-of-sale rebate are satisfied with Treasury’s reimbursement portal. Hopefully, this will encourage more dealers to opt into the program and help their customers to take advantage of these valuable credits.
“It is important to note that the sourcing eligibility requirements for the full new vehicle tax credit are centered on growing the U.S. economy and strengthening our supply chains for batteries and minerals. These vehicles must be made in North America, a large percentage of the battery components must be sourced from the U.S. or allied nations, and there are significant restrictions to prevent foreign entities of concern from benefiting,” Gore concluded.
ZETA recently released roadmaps for 30D and 25E outlining everything drivers need to know about the credits and what they mean for EV adoption.
